The State Fair of Texas is going to run from September 29 to October 22 at Fair Park and ranks as one of Dallas’ most family-friendly events, however, a new rule could reshape how children experience the fair.

The days of dropping children off at night by themselves have ended. Anyone under the age of 18 will only be admitted after 5 p.m. if they are accompanied by a parent or adult chaperone, the State Fair announced on Tuesday in a press release.

Additionally, a chaperone may not bring more than six minors at any single time. The State Fair suggested the move was in the interest of public safety.

“Public safety is our top priority. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming experience for all who attend our annual celebration of Texas,” said State Fair COO Jaime Navarro, according to the news release.

“Comparable policies are being instated industry-wide, and the State Fair of Texas believes this policy is the best course of action to enhance the existing safety measures for all fairgoers, vendors, and employees,” Navarro added.

The State Fair noted that adult supervision is not required on the fairgrounds, but it advised parties should try to stay in communication.

Last year, Dallas police and State Fair officials said a group of individuals tried to create chaos by running out of the fairgrounds, which led to false reports of a possible shooting, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

The State Fair’s Guest Code of Conduct can be found on BigTex.com/CodeofConduct. It will also be posted at the admission gates.

Season passes for the annual event are selling for $50. Fairgoers with a season pass can have access to all 24 days of the fair, including musical concerts. A premium one-day pass is currently on sale for $24.

The State Fair recently narrowed its list of entries to this year’s Big Tex Choice Awards to 10, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. The winners will be announced on August 27.
