Starship Bagel, owned by Oren Salomon, has recently expanded beyond the first location in Lewisville. The new downtown satellite location opened on January 20 at 1520 Elm St., along Stone Street Gardens.
The Lewisville location houses all the heavy-duty machinery, such as a rotating deck oven and massive kettle for boiling water, and makes authentic New York-style artisanal bagels, The Dallas Morning News reported. Fresh bagels are brought to the downtown location daily.
The shop follows traditional bagel-making methods, which utilize a 24-hour fermentation process to develop a sweet-sour wheat flavor according to the store’s website. The bagels are next boiled in order to gelatinize the starches on the surface. Finally, they are baked for the famously chewy center and a crispy crust. Authentic New York bagels are naturally vegan, and Starship’s are no exception.
Salomon opened Starship Bagel in 2021 with the Lewisville location. Initially, the store manufactured bagels in small batches of classic flavors such as plain, sesame seed, poppy seed, salt, everything, garlic, and zaatar.
Currently, in addition to the aforementioned flavors, they offer cinnamon raisin, Italian, pretzel, and onion, with weekend-only availability for French toast, egg bagel, and “Eggything.” For the adventurous bagel fan, “Surprise Me!” is an orderable menu item.
Starship features tasty toppings such as Lox Spread, from Brooklyn-based Acme Smoked Fish Corp and cream cheese schmears in a host of flavors: plain, scallion, green olive, garden veggie, fermented jalapeño, fermented blueberry, honey almond, and vegan schmear.
Customers can choose any bagel and a schmear as a base for bagel sandwiches, custom or store specialties such as the cucumber sandwich, Millennial Falcon, or the Supernova Lox. “Infinite add-ons” are available with toppings such as sprouts, capers, and pickled onions.
Bagels can be paired with a drip coffee or Simple Shot Iced Latte. An assortment of other beverages is available to choose from.
Starship Bagel has been top-rated by Dallas Sites 101. The bagel shop offers order-ahead for pickup and home delivery on Saturdays and Sundays for customers in the delivery zone at the Lewisville location.
