Southfork Ranch has been chosen as the location of a new barbecue and music festival.

The “Smokeout Barbecue and Music Festival” will feature a barbecue competition that is “so intense, you might break a sweat just watching!” according to the website. Barbecue categories include brisket, ribs, and chicken. The organizers are expecting pitmasters from around the state to compete for $15,000 in prizes, including a People’s Choice grand prize — voted on by attendees — of $5,000. The competition is sanctioned by the Outlaw Barbecue Association.

“Come hungry and ready to celebrate the best of Texas barbecue culture,” say the organizers, who are expecting 50 teams to compete, reported CultureMap Dallas — a huge number, according to Tim Esh, spokesperson for The Outlaw BBQ Association.

“A typical event might draw 30 to 35 teams, but it can be as small as 15 teams, so 50 is at the top,” Esh told CultureMap Dallas. “You get all levels, from backyard hobbyists to restaurant owners, even to high school teams.”

Music acts include multi-platinum country artist Gary Allan, known for his chart-topping songs Man to Man, Tough Little Boys, Nothing On but the Radio, and Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain); East Texas singer-songwriter Paul Cauthen, best known for his song Cocaine Country Dancing; county music singer Ryder Grimes; and a surprise special act.

The event will take place on September 7 at Southfork Ranch, 3700 Hogge Dr., Parker. There will be a barbecue from 2 to 5 p.m. and a concert from 5 to 11 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now. General Admission for the barbecue (2 to 5 p.m.) is $45, and General Admission for the concert (5 to 11 p.m.) is $65. A VIP pass costs $100 and allows entrance at 12 p.m. Parking is $20. Presale ticket prices are subject to change as the event approaches.
