According to the City of Dallas website, a skilled labor job fair will be held at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center on Saturday, October 23rd, from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. The center is located at 2828 Fish Trap Road in Dallas.

West Dallas Multipurpose Center hopes to gain interest from individuals who need employment and connect them to the businesses looking for employees.

Ashley Hutto, the manager of the center, states, “Skilled labor is an essential expertise, and we are excited to support the Dallas community in this way,” and continues with, “it can be hard for businesses to advertise for and fill open positions, so we hope to help people make connections.”

The job fair will consist of twenty businesses that have immediate openings for positions. People who attend this fair will fill out applications for a potential job that interests them. Companies that are present may also interview with the potential employee right there at the job fair.

Omar Narvaez, a Councilmember of District 6, said, “Skilled labor jobs are vital to the Dallas community. This is an incredible opportunity not only to showcase these essential jobs but also to help people enter the workforce.” Narvaez will be at the job fair on October 23rd.

It is noted on the City of Dallas’ website that people who plan on attending should dress appropriately for the outdoors, keeping the weather in mind. The event will be located in the parking lot of West Dallas Multipurpose Center. The job fair could possibly be canceled due to inclement weather.

According to the Office of Community Care, West Dallas Multipurpose Center began operation in 1988. It’s a center where the community has an outlet to be involved in programs and multiple services. The reasoning behind the center is to help “enhance the quality of life in West Dallas.”

The 2020-2021 Texas Workforce Report states, “Texas, for a variety of economic and demographic reasons, has weathered COVID-19 better thus far than many other states. More recently, the unemployment rate for Texas in June 2021 (at 6.5 percent) is only six-tenths of a percentage point above that of the United States rate of 5.9 percent.” The report also mentions, “On an annual basis, Texas is projected to have about 1.8 million job openings due to exits from the labor force, transfers from occupations, and growth.”
