Six Flags Over Texas unveiled its newest ride on Saturday, with Pass Holders getting an early preview on Friday. The ride, called “Pirates of the Speelunker Cave,” is not a roller coaster but an immersive boat ride and one of the park’s top family-friendly rides, NBC 5 reported.

“This state-of-the-art attraction will place guests squarely in the middle of a pirate treasure hunt thwarted by resident Speelunkers,” the Six Flags Over Texas website explains.

The Pirates of the Speelunker Cave will replace the current Yosemite Sam ride.

According to the website, the new ride is a reimagining of one of the park’s first-ever rides, The Cave. This classic ride operated from 1964 to 1991, featuring six original characters called Speelunkers. It was created exclusively for the Texas amusement park.

There is no height requirement for children accompanied by an adult, and each boat can hold six passengers. A total of 26 boats will be in use for the ride, and there will be 64 original characters for passengers to see.

“An all-new entry plaza will welcome adventurers with coastal theming and an open vantage point of the ride’s first descent into Speelunker Cave,” the park website shares. “Once aboard their six-passenger boat, riders will experience 17 brand-new scenes that combine state-of-the-art cinematic projection with immersive sets and animatronics.”

Wanted posters, nautical-themed artifacts, and custom music are featured to bring the ride together.

Brad Malone, the marketing and communications manager for Six Flags Over Texas, spoke to NBC 5 about the park’s new, captivating ride.

“They’re going to go through 17 unique scenes that are going to have cinematic projection screens, physical sets, and animatronics that really tell the story,” Malone said. “So it’s going to be completely immersive as you ride through.”

Six Flags Over Texas has also introduced a new three-tier Pass Program for 2022 in an effort to maximize the experience and value for park guests.

Later this year, the park will also launch the AQUAMAN: Power Wave roller coaster, according to the website.

The water ride will be the 15th coaster in the park and the first of its kind in North Texas. Passengers will be suspended at a 90-degree angle before hurtling forward.

“The ride will launch riders back backwards and forwards, straight up colossal 148 feet twin-track towers and then send them plunging straight down more than 700 feet of track,” the park website explains. “After reaching a top speed of 63 mph, the water coaster will send riders towards the ultimate massive splash.”

The height requirement for AQUAMAN: Power Wave will be 48 inches or taller, and it has one of the highest thrill levels. Pirates of the Speelunker Cave and the AQUAMAN ride, once it debuts, will be open for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Other popular rides found at Six Flags Over Texas include SUPERMAN: Tower of Power, Silver Star Carousel, Shock Wave, New Texas Giant, and Gunslinger.
