Inspired by the hit TV show “American Ninja Warrior,” Aqil Ressler is opening a gym in North Richland Hills designed to teach adults and children different fitness techniques.

“Ninja Warrior is the sport that our facility, Obstacle Warriors, is based on,” he said. “Our facility allows both kids and adults to let loose, have fun, and learn in a unique way. The obstacles featured in our facility will provide a fun challenge for participants in balance, coordination, agility, strength, and endurance.”

A certified personal trainer, Ressler owns Aqil Fitness Training Solutions. He said he hopes to open Obstacle Warriors in just over two months at 8525 Airport Freeway, Suite 200.

“Obstacle Warriors North Richland Hills will host open play, birthday parties, classes, competitions, corporate and team-building events, and more,” Ressler said.

Obstacle Warriors offers membership packages for children and adults and drop-in rates for open play. The gym will be open seven days a week.

According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the 25,000-plus-square-foot building is undergoing $450,000 in renovations. Colleyville-based Ward Architecture is listed as the design firm on the filing. Its portfolio includes Ascension Salon Suite in Dallas, My Lan Restaurant in Colleyville, and Outlaw Fit Camp in Flower Mound.

American Ninja Warrior, a sports-oriented reality and game show, is in its 15th season. Elite athletes compete on “the world’s most difficult obstacle courses” to win $1 million. The show is hosted by  Akbar Gbajabiamila, Zuri Hall, and Matt Iseman.
