International Women’s Day (IWD) will be celebrated in DFW and across the globe Tuesday, March 8.

Celebrated annually since 1911, IWD highlights the “social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality,” according to the IWD website.

The theme of this year’s campaign is “Break the Bias.” Striving towards a gender-equal world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, the campaign encourages all to work together to “break the bias in our communities,” “in our workplaces,” and “in our schools, colleges, and universities.”

Well-known feminist, activist, and journalist Gloria Steinem stated, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”

North Texans will have plenty of options to choose from this year to commemorate International Women’s Day.

Maggiano’s Little Italy is hosting an International Women’s Day Luncheon on March 8 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., located at 6001 West Park Boulevard in Plano. This event is a fundraiser for the Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation.

An all-female three-person panel will present pieces on “The Power of Resilience.” The first panelist, Prabha Cinclair, will discuss her work and economic development incentives. Aliah Henry, chief executive officer for The Henry Group, a consulting firm for small businesses and nonprofits, is the second. Lastly, Lisa Vogl, an international fashion photographer and a Verona Collections co-founder, will be speaking. The cost to attend is $100.

The Women Driving Innovation event is scheduled for March 8 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Pegasus Park, located at 3000 Pegasus Park Drive in Dallas. At this event, women in healthcare and life sciences will meet to network and hear a panel discussion.

The speakers will be: Elaine Murphy, senior vice president of strategic innovation and business development for McKesson; Shalini Prasad, Ph.D., a Cecil and Ida A. Green professor in systems biology and department head of bioengineering at University of Texas at Dallas; and Daina Pitzenberger, senior vice president at Jones Lang LaSalle. Women U-Nite, presented by 24HourDallas, is set for March 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, located at 2403 Flora Street in Dallas. The event will be a girl’s night out that doubles as a gathering dedicated to community and collaboration.

Special guest Dallas City Council District 12 representative Cara Mendelsohn will be present, and part of the agenda includes the drafting of the first women’s night safety charter, which aims to ensure women are protected while patronizing restaurants, clubs, and bars at night.

The intimate event will feature live from the Dallas Women’s Chorus. Attendees are encouraged to wear all white in celebration of IWD. Tickets for the VIP Cocktail Party are $70 and general admission RSVP is free.

Ladies Night Market will take place on Friday, March 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Pegasus City Brewery, located at 1508 Commerce Street in Dallas.
