On January 11, 2022, Colson Baker, better known as the alt-rock performer Machine Gun Kelly, asked his girlfriend, actress Megan Fox, for her hand in marriage.

Baker wrote on Instagram, “beneath the same branches we fell in love under, i brought her back to ask her to marry me.”

The proposal took place under the same Banyan tree where he and Fox had sat a year-and-a-half earlier and “asked for magic,” as Fox recalled.

Fox posted a video of the romantic proposal on social media, which Baker had recorded on his cell phone propped up against a cup.

The couple, who have been dating for almost two years, is more eccentric together than they ever were solo. Their uniqueness is reflected in Baker’s choice of engagement ring, a two-stone emerald and diamond design that represents their birth months.

Baker had the ring commissioned by celebrity jeweler Stephen Webster. Webster recalls designing the piece, telling Vogue, “He wanted something that was completely original and meaningful to both Megan and himself. He fed me lots of material in an almost lyrical form. I used this to create the two rings which become one. I used magnets embedded in the gold to attract the two rings together when worn as one. Possibly the most romantic story I have had to work with.”

Baker gave further detail on the ring during a second Vogue interview saying, “It’s a thoroughbred Colombian emerald, with no treatment. It was just carved into the teardrop, straight out of the mine. And the diamond was directly from Stephen. The concept is that the ring can come apart to make two rings. When it’s together, it’s held in place by a magnet…then it forms an obscure heart…The bands are actually thorns. So if she tries to take it off, it hurts….”

Baker then tells the interviewer, who compliments him on the design, “Love hurts….”

There is something very Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton about their love. Even with Fox’s caption detailing her engagement, the actress writes in part, “We were oblivious to the pain we would face together in such a short, frenetic period of time. Unaware of the work and sacrifices the relationship would require from us, but intoxicated off of the love. And the karma…And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes. …and then we drank each other’s blood.”

The wedding should be interesting.
