Local restaurant Fish & Fizz has shut down.

Nick Barclay co-owns the Richardson restaurant and assured his customers that the restaurant is planning on returning.

“It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later,” Barclay said.

Fish & Fizz closed just before Christmas due to issues with negotiating a “satisfactory lease.” The restaurant was located in a strip mall at 400 N. Coit Rd. in Richardson.

In a Facebook post, the restaurant’s proprietors wrote:

“[O]ur journey in this building has come to an end. We’d like to thank each and every one of you, our customers, our staff, old and new, for your unwavering support, custom, and friendship during this incredibly challenging past five years.”

The current plan for Barclay is to open what he calls “Fish & Fizz 2.0” in a new location.

Though no lease has been signed yet, Barclay has confidence in his loyal customers and his ability to build on that base.

Prior to opening up Fish & Fizz, Barclay worked as a chef in Cornwall, England, at the Blue Plate. His LinkedIn shows that he continues to work as a freelance chef, offering consultations in England and the U.S.

The Dallas Morning News reviewed Fish & Fizz in 2018, praising its fried fish which paired nicely with sparkling wine — appropriate for the name.

The menu included classic English meals such as mushy peas and bangers and mash, as well as the trademark fish and chips.

The restaurant was casual — guests seated themselves and gathered their own silverware and condiments — but offered highly regarded food.

Additionally, The Dallas Morning News called the noise level “shouty,” so, not necessarily a place to go for a quiet intimate evening.

Despite the casual environment, the Fish & Fizz menu featured an impressive wine list, and the food was akin to the quality you would get at a fancy restaurant, but for the reasonable price of $14, as the DMN noted.
