The Midlothian community hosted several fundraisers on Wednesday to help a high school football coach who has a rare type of bladder cancer.
Football coach Clif White is still showing up for work, despite being in a wheelchair and on oxygen.
White was diagnosed in May and since then has gone through three rounds of chemotherapy and two rounds of immunotherapy. He keeps showing up because, as he told CBS, “I love everything I do here … I love the kids that I work with, so it works out.”
Football moms had a group workout to raise money for his treatments. Mom Symphony Lowe said that White is a symbol of continuing on and not giving up “no matter what life throws at you.”
The community also put together a home run derby in an effort to raise funds.
White’s wife, Meagan, wanted her husband to get treatment at the best hospital, MD Anderson, despite having no insurance during his first round of chemo.
She stated, “I was not going to let him have second-best treatment.” Expressing confidence, she added, “I knew God will provide money.”
The family is very grateful for the Midlothian community. “This community, the community of Midlothian, has set the example for the world on how to take care of their own,” Mrs. White said.
If you would like to donate or volunteer for their meal train, you can do so here. There is also the option of giving Grubhub, DoorDash, or other meal delivery or restaurant gift cards. Their preferred food delivery time is 4:00-4:30 p.m.
Taking the opportunity to express gratitude to all their donors and volunteers, the White family stated, “We are thankful for any blessing that God puts on your heart. We love you all more than you can imagine.”
So far, they have reached 88% of their $1,000 goal.
