A new kid-friendly venue offering parents the opportunity to wind down and kids the safe space to wind up has opened in East Dallas.

The Shindig Food Park is owned and operated by Terri and Kam De León, previous owners of a catering business called De León Provisions.

Their new venture, located at 3732 Samuell Blvd., is a refreshing outdoor dining space crafted with families in mind.

The location not only boasts plenty of parking space but also a half-acre where kids can freely roam and play.

“Bring us your children, the entire soccer team and their families, where they can run around, enjoy a good time. We will never ask your children to sit down,” Kam told Culture Map Dallas.

There are small trampolines and a ping-pong table to help keep them entertained.

Fur babies are also welcome on a dog-friendly patio put together with the help of Terri and Kam’s sons.

The lot used to be a Keller’s Hamburgers location but now is a dynamic space featuring an ever-changing rotation of food trucks and small operators offering an array of goodies and drinks.

What’s certain is that local brands are front and center.

For instance, The Shindig recently threw a $4 Texas beer special featuring brews from Four Corners Brewing Co., Community Beer Co., and Deep Ellum Brewing Co.

The only permanent fixture is the vendor Locura Small Bites, specializing in Mexican cuisine, and a window serving soft drinks as well as a full bar for adults.

Events can also be planned at The Shindig, such as a recent watch party for soccer star Lionel Messi’s first away match with Inter Miami played against FC Dallas.

The venue’s patio shades and the breeze off White Rock Creek offer a respite from the summer heat.

After Labor Day, Terri and Kam will add more hours to The Shindig’s current schedule of Tuesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

During the week work, it will open at 3 p.m. to cater to the afterschool crowd, and on weekends it will open all day.

As The Dallas Express reported, adults looking for a child-free sipping experience can check out the Wine & Food Festival hosted by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. On August 25-27, ticketholders can sample wine from around the world and taste dishes whipped up by celebrated Dallas chefs.
