Jamie Foxx will be at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on Thursday, October 21st. The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory is located at 300 West Las Colinas Boulevard in Irving. The show starts at 8:00 in the evening, and ticket prices are between $39.50 and $79.50.

Jamie Foxx is well known for being a comedian, a musician, and an actor. He continued his talented journey to create a memoir titled Act Like You Got Some Sense, inspired by his grandmother. The memoir was released yesterday, Oct. 19, and is now on sale.

In 1967, Jamie Foxx was born as Eric Marlon Bishop in Terrell, Texas. When he was seven months old, his parents, Louise Talley and Darrell Bishop abandoned him. He was then raised by his grandparents, Mark and Estelle Talley, who later adopted him.

Speaking to Josh Tyrangiel of Time, Foxx said, “My grandmother was 60 years old when she adopted me,” and added, “she ran a nursery school and had a library in the house. She saw me reading early, saw I was smart, and believed I was born to achieve truly special things.”

His grandmother was strict, loving, nurturing, and supportive. She kept Jamie involved in Boy Scouts, church choir and started him with piano lessons at age three.

Estelle wrote to her grandson in a newspaper clipping by saying, “Eric, I have watched you grow during the last 17 years. I am very proud of your accomplishments. Life is a road of trials and errors, and the path is just beginning. When the path grows dark just remember to ask God for help. Love, Granny.”

Estelle Talley passed away at the age of 95 in October 2004 due to Alzheimer’s.

Foxx has received many awards for his talents, including Best Actor Academy Award, Best Actor in a Leading Role BAFTA Award, Best Actor in Motion Picture Golden Globe Award, and Outstanding Performance by Male Actor in Leading Role SAG Award. Foxx also produced four albums that landed in the top ten for the United States and gained him a Grammy Award.

He is beyond proud to be a dad to his daughters, Corinne and Annalise. It is the favorite role he has played beyond hanging out with hip-hop legends, winning his awards, and laughing along with presidents.

According to Icon Vs. Icon, Act Like You Got Some Sense reflects on Jamie’s memories of being raised by his grandmother who never accepted any nonsense, his ups and downs of Hollywood life, and how he combined both of those chapters of his life while raising two daughters.

Foxx stated, “When I am deep in the weeds, trying to figure out how to parent my daughters, it is the voice of my grandmother I hear in my head, encouraging me, and of course yelling at me when I’m messing up as a parent. Thanks to her, I know that it was not about always being your kids’ best friend but being a parent. Even when it means you gotta be tough with them. Sometimes you gotta be tough because you love them. Just like she always loved me.”

Publishers Weekly talks about the memoir stating, “Foxx describes his ‘granny’ as a suffer-no-fools individual whose toughness… was practiced on strangers so she could give family the full treatment.” They also mention, “Where this book truly excels is in its honesty,” and that the memoir is “full of genuine reflection and heartfelt humor.”

According to Grand Central Publishing, when Foxx talks about his grandmother, he compares Estelle to Madea. While reflecting on the lessons he has learned from his grandmother, Foxx said that she was “Madea before Tyler Perry put on the pumps and gray wig.”

Kirkus Reviews said that Act Like You Got Some Sense is “a practical, sometimes profane, always entertaining guide to the fine art of parenting.”

Special guests will be involved on stage during his Act Like you Got Some Sense Tour at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. A purchased ticket will include a signed copy of the memoir, Act Like You Got Some Sense. This event will be an “unforgettable evening of laughs, tears, and wisdom,” according to Icon Vs. Icon.
