Not only is the upcoming weekend expected to be sunny and beautiful, it is also Labor Day weekend, which means many folks have an extra day to soak up the sunshine and enjoy some of the events happening around town.

Here are a few of the celebrations happening around Dallas and Fort-Worth this weekend.

Legacy Hall Luau

Legacy Hall in Plano is hosting an outdoor luau and pig roast on Sunday, Sept. 5th starting at 2 pm. In addition to hula and fire dancers, themed cocktails, and the always popular limbo competition, Dock Local will be providing a traditional Kalua-style roast pig. There will also be live music and the option to get a delicious plate of takeout ($20) from Dock Locals. This is a family-friendly event, but it is recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance.

TBAAL Riverfront Jazz Festival

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters will be hosting their fourth annual Riverfront Jazz Festival from Friday, Sept. 3rd, through Sunday, the 5th. The event will feature live music from 25 artists, including Erykah Badu and Terrance Blanchard of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Tickets range between $80 and $170 and can be purchased here.

Hispanic Heritage at the Arboretum

This Labor Day weekend is the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden’s 4th annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration. The event will take place all weekend and will feature live music, cooking demonstrations, dozens of vendors, and kicking it all off will be the quinceañera fashion show. This weekend is also a Kelley Family Weekend, which means free entrance to the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. A full schedule of the event, as well as tickets, can be found on the Arboretum’s website.

Mimosa Walk

Take a self-guided tour through Deep Ellum’s Outdoor Market while enjoying the sunshine and mimosas. The event starts at noon on Saturday. Participants will receive a souvenir glass, a wristband, and a map to help them navigate over 50 vendor stalls and 10 different mimosa sampling stations.  So, reserve your glass and time early because this is an event you don’t want to miss.
