As the holiday season approaches, festive tunes fill the air, but some songs might pose a threat on the road.
Research from the South China University of Technology highlights the dangers of driving while listening to music with high beats per minute (BPM). Among the holiday classics, “Frosty The Snowman” has been identified as the most perilous tune, potentially distracting drivers and leading to accidents.
Experts found that songs exceeding 120 BPM can encourage reckless driving behaviors, reported the New York Post.
Max Coupland, CEO of the insurance guidance website Insuranceopedia, emphasized the influence of music on driving focus, urging caution while driving to maintain safety.
“As the holiday season approaches, it’s important to recognize how music influences our driving habits. While festive tunes bring joy, some high-energy or distracting songs can impact our focus on the road,” Coupland said, per the NYP.
Following closely behind in the rankings is Mariah Carey’s hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which boasts a BPM of 150, making it another tune to be wary of while on the road.
Other holiday songs that made the “most dangerous” list include “Feliz Navidad” and “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town,” both of which have also been linked to increased risk when driving.
