The Gas Monkey Bar & Grill in Northwest Dallas is set to finally reopen under new management and with a new name. The bar has cut ties with its co-founder Richard Rawlings and has been rebranded with a new name, Amplified.

Amplified will stay at its current location, 10261 Technology Blvd., but will have a new look to accompany its name change. Set to reopen this October, Amplified will feature a fresh new interior, a new sound, and a lighting system, along with a revamped outdoor area and a new menu.

The bar closed down in 2020. Now being run by managing partner Alex Mendonsa, Amplified plans to offer great food and a live music venue. The new bar and grill has already booked live music with bands Matisyahu, Bad Religion, and Alkaline Trio.

“Richard is taking the name, and it gives us the freedom to move forward and focus on what we’ve been doing for the past eight years — providing the best entertainment we can get our hands-on, with the best food and service,” Mendonsa says.

“We don’t have security guards, we have security hosts. When people come to the venue, they’re pleasantly surprised.”

The new menu will include basics such as sandwiches, burgers, brisket tacos, as well as entrées that include Chicken Marsala, Shrimp, Chicken and Sausage Étouffée.

Amplified has also revamped the cocktail list and will continue to serve beer. As Mendosa points out, the location has a number of benefits too.

“We’re off the beaten path, but that becomes an advantage,” Mendonsa shared. Adding, “Having an outdoor stage is obviously a big plus right now, but we’re also not subject to ordinances for sound or having to be done by a certain time. We have plenty of parking, and we don’t charge for parking. We end up being a destination.”
