The “Free Play” arcade is perfect for fans of Stranger Things, Pac-Man, and anything 80s, and recent news of a new location in Dallas should excite local arcade fans of all stripes.

The retro-themed arcade first opened in Richardson in 2015 and quickly grew to include Arlington, Fort Worth, and Denton venues. The chain is now moving into a suitable location at Trinity Groves in Dallas.

All Free Play locations have a sizable selection of old-school arcade and pinball machines available for free play (hence the name) after visitors pay an entrance fee.

The company announced its expansion by christening a new website for the location, stating, “We’re bringing more than 150 authentic arcade games, pinball machines, skeeball, and more. We’re also bringing our best-in-class (full) bar and kitchen to finally deliver the Dallas arcade of your dreams. No filler, no fake games, just the good stuff.”

Free Play expects the new location to be ready for “beta testing” by the end of the year. It will have the same ambiance as the other locations, equipped with real arcade games from the 80s and 90s, not replicas.

The new Free Play Dallas website notes the new location will be the chain’s biggest, with at least as many games as the Denton and Arlington locations.

As for why Dallas will be the next city to call Free Play home, the company wrote, “Dallas has been at the top of Free Play’s list for years, but finding a good real estate fit has been a challenge (and also the pandemic sucked).”

The company stated that gamers can expect the same service and “high standards.” In addition, the website says to “expect programming surprises. Expect that each day at the arcade will be special. Expect Free Play.”

The new Free Play location will be located at 3015 Gulden Ln.
