The museum launched a fundraising campaign earlier this year, and they were able to renovate the museum’s exterior with the first part of the campaign.
The Dallas Firefighter’s Museum’s primary purpose is to capture, maintain and display the historical and cultural heritage, honoring the department’s fallen heroes while providing the public, especially children, education on fire prevention, protection, and life safety in all situations.
Active and retired firefighters have operated the museum for over 50 years.
Working in their spare time, they have organized tours, conducted instructional programs in addition to maintaining the museum. The Board of Directors is dedicated to keeping the memory of the fallen and sacrificed firefighters at the forefront.
The museum launched a fundraising campaign earlier this year, with two main ideas behind it. The first part of the campaign was to raise $1 million to renovate the museum’s exterior, which had not received any care since it opened in 1975.
The second part of the campaign has since begun, to raise $10 million to renovate the museum’s interior thoroughly.
This $1 million donation from the Sarah and Ross Perot, Jr. Foundation is part of the $10 million fundraising goal to renovate the interior.
Fire safety education comes first and is influential in preparing families and children for a real fire emergency, especially when practiced. This factor is why the museum’s renovation is crucial to continue the transfer of knowledge there.
The $1 million donation brings the museum closer to its fundraising goal, which will allow it to continue its educational mission and renovate the building’s interior.
