The Dallas Theater Center (DTC) is losing its managing director.
DTC announced Thursday that Jeffrey Woodward is retiring from the Dallas Theater Center next year after eight years of serving the theater, according to a press release.
Woodward is a veteran of the regional theater industry with over 40 years in the business, working for groups such as the McCarter Theater Center, Hartford Stage, the Mark Taper Forum, and Syracuse Stage.
“While I am retiring as a managing director,” Woodward said in a press release, “I plan to remain active in the national and local nonprofit community with consulting projects.”
Woodward remains on the planning committee for the Nonprofit Professional Theater Alliance as well as being a member of the Dallas Arts District executive committee.
Under Woodward’s leadership, two theaters won the Regional Theater Tony Award.
“Jeff Woodward has been an incredible advocate for Dallas Theater Center and we are deeply grateful for his sincere commitment and vast contribution to the organization during his tenure,” Jennifer Altabef, Dallas Theater Center board of directors chair, said in a press release. “With his leadership, Dallas Theater Center was able to continue producing inspirational work that touched our community during the most challenging days of the pandemic. Jeff’s management brought clarity to our budgeting and financial results, and the improvements Jeff made helped DTC win the Regional Theatre Tony Award in 2017. It has been my privilege to partner with Jeff over the years and Dallas Theater Center is better because of his passion and leadership.”
The Board of Directors is currently looking for a new managing director while Woodward continues to serve as the interim managing director until another candidate is found.
Kevin Moriarty, DTC artist director, said it has been a blessing to have Woodward as managing director.
“His level of dedication to DTC and willingness to work through and overcome challenges we have faced as an institution speaks directly to his commitment to all of us at the theater,” Moriarty said. “He has many reasons to be proud of all that he has accomplished throughout his career, and we are grateful for his leadership.”   Â
