DFW Airport travelers will soon have another option when traveling to Australia. Qantas announced that it will launch services in Melbourne, Australia. Tickets are available to customers with service four times a week on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, starting December 2.
The Chief Executive Officer at DFW Airport, Sean Donohue, said in a statement on Saturday, March 26, that they had taken a bold step in introducing the nonstop service to Melbourne after listening to their customers.
“Both [Melbourne and Dallas-Fort Worth] are experiencing rapid growth, and this addition will provide new opportunities for international business ties, tourism, and economic development,” said Donohue.
The announcement came just a few days after Australia announced the end of pre-travel testing rules. To curb the spread of COVID-19, Australia had previously imposed strict regulations on foreigners entering the country.
Speaking to the press, officials from DFW said that the move marks the first direct flights to Melbourne from the United States that do not originate from the west coast. DFW is the third airport in the United States that Qantas flies directly to, behind Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
The newly introduced service means that hundreds of extra seats will be available to anyone who wants a direct flight to the capital city of Victoria. The airport said that it was optimistic that many people would take advantage of the service.
The announcement comes when DFW Airport is experiencing significant growth in its new routes and air service relaunches. DFW Airport will offer customers nonstop services to more than seventy international destinations with the new service.
