The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will present Hollywood Holidays at the Meyerson Symphony Center this weekend, featuring classic silver screen holiday music. The venue is located at 2301 Flora Street, in Dallas.

According to NBC DFW, Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Pops Conductor Laureate is Richard Kaufman.

Born in Los Angeles, Kaufman has always held a passion for the music provided through television and film. “I basically fell in love with all of it,” he stated.

He first took up the violin at the tender age of seven and has been making music ever since.  Over the years, he has recorded with the likes of Henry Mancini, Burt Bacharach, Ray Charles, and many other musicians of note.

He has worked with conductor and award-winning music composer John Willams for forty-six years.

“I was in my early 20s when I played on Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Those were incredible experiences playing the music and of course, working with John Williams,” Kaufman shared.

Kaufman stated that the Hollywood Holidays concert is “definitely a program about the excitement and beauty and meaning of the Christmas season. The concert hall is an oasis, especially these days, because more than ever, people are looking for joy and peace.”

Hollywood Holidays will include songs from the films It’s a Wonderful Life, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Polar Express, Jesus of Nazareth, White Christmas, and Meet Me in St. Louis.

Kaufman speaks highly of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. “The DSO musicians truly understand the demands and passion required to perform film music. And they bring the same dedication and quality to the performance of film music as they do to the great classical repertoire… Whenever I have the opportunity to work with the Dallas Symphony, I can’t wait to get on the plane,” he expressed.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Hollywood Holidays concert, conducted by Richard Kaufman, runs Friday through Sunday. Ticket prices range from $29 to $105 per seat.
