Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) canceled its November 23 performance of the Broadway musical Hamilton on Tuesday night. The Dallas Morning News reported that the cancellation was announced on DSM’s website and Facebook page at about 5 p.m. that evening.
According to the statement released by DSM officials, there has been a detection of “breakthrough” COVID cases within the Hamilton company putting together the Fair Park performances. The statement also cited traffic and parking problems at the Music Hall at Fair Park.
Dallas Summer Musicals say the show would go on as planned starting Wednesday.
“All future performances of Hamilton at the Music Hall are scheduled to go on as planned,” the statement read.
DSM later posted on its website that it added an extra performance of the show, to be held on Sunday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. The statement further revealed that all tickets from Tuesday’s canceled performance would be honored at the newly scheduled performance.
DSM said that people who hold tickets for the canceled show can also get them exchanged for a ticket for another performance. Those who cannot make it on December 5 have the option of receiving a full refund through their original point of purchase.
It is unclear how many members or which members of the fully vaccinated cast and crew were affected as officials at DSM and the Hamilton production did not provide such details. They also did not provide details of the protocols used to resume the shows.
The Dallas Morning News reported that a spokesman for DSM, Mike Richman, said that the theatre company has taken precautions to keep audiences safe.
As he pointed out, some of the precautions include improving the air filtering system at the Music Hall and requiring the wearing of masks by all members of the audience.
According to The Dallas Morning News report, DSM and Fair Park also said that they are trying to work out a better traffic and parking situation in and around the park.
