Even though the temperatures climbed into the 80’s in Dallas’ mid-December, a quick walk or drive through the Dallas Fort-Worth metroplex reveals “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” in Texas.
LawnStarter compiled a Christmas list of two hundred cities in the United States to decide the most festive. They ranked the cities using a metric that includes five categories. The categories were frolicking, merrymaking, entertaining, eating, and shopping.
According to the LawnStarter, Dallas ranked number forty in their 2021 Most Festive Cities. Dallas’ lowest-ranking category was “frolicking,” scoring 110 out of 200. This low score is largely due to a lack of snow (which most Texans are likely okay with).
According to their study, most of Texas is not as festive as Dallas.
“Not everything is bigger in the Lone Star State, it turns out,” LawnStarter reports. “Holidays appear to be less of production in smaller Texas cities, most of which landed in the lower half of our ranking. Laredo, Corpus Christi, Brownsville, and Amarillo slipped to the bottom ten and took the last spots in the Merrymaking category.”
Larger cities in Texas fared much better than their smaller counterparts.
“Bigger Texas cities know how to party, with Houston faring best at No. 26 overall,” LawnStarter determined. “Fort Worth’s Parade of Lights, San Antonio’s Chanukah on the River, Austin’s Trail of Lights, and KwanzaaFest in Dallas are just some of the larger events in the state that stand to make your holiday wishes come true.”
According to Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, KwanzaFest in Dallas has been canceled for 2021. The cancellation did not affect Dallas’ overall score.
Dallas earned the fortieth overall rank with an overall score of twenty-one. Dallas was preceded by Salt Lake City, Utah at 39 and followed by Providence, Rhode Island at 41. The overall ranking was determined after notching scores of 110 in frolicking, 63 in merry-making, 20 in entertainment, 19 in eating, and 49 in shopping.
The top five festive cities are New York, NY, Chicago, IL, Boston, MA, Philadelphia, PA, and San Francisco, CA.
The bottom five festive cities on the list are Enterprise, NV, Port St. Lucie, FL, Laredo, TX, Corpus Christi, TX, and Brownsville, TX.
