Dallas Designing Dreams, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 2006 to “nurture the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of individuals.”
According to Arthur Porter, one of the founders of the organization, Dallas Designing Dreams is a nonprofit organization committed to assisting people in achieving their creative dreams.
Porter said the organization offers personal training and support for artists and designers who want to create and market their unique line of items such as “handmade bags, leather accessories, jewelry, and apparel.”
Porter and Carla Robertson founded the nonprofit organization. Porter describes Robertson as a “master seamstress.” The two founders have partnered with Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center in Dallas to offer free entrepreneurship and merchandising classes for children between the ages of ten and seventeen years old. The classes are virtual and in-person, and the children receive lessons on how to design and create their t-shirts and how to sew.
Porter revealed that since Dallas Designing Dreams opened its doors, it has supported dozens of aspiring artists and designers with in-person classes, hands-on design, tutorials on Youtube, production, and equipment. Porter said the nonprofit has also assisted the artists with resource recommendations.
Porter said the nonprofit organization’s studio provides space and equipment for artists to produce their designs and market them to potential customers who visit its website.
Many designers who got their start at Dallas Designing Dreams have established and marketed their production lines. Some designers have launched their small-scale businesses or are marketing their products to shops and boutiques in the Dallas area.
