Fatal vehicle accidents on Dallas County roads from 2017 to 2019 numbered 806, the second-highest tally among Texas counties, according to a new analysis from the personal finance website MoneyGeek.
Nearly 29% of those Dallas accidents were caused by drunken driving, the study found. The most dangerous stretch of roadway in the city was the Texas-12 Loop, where 44 deadly accidents occurred during that time period, according to MoneyGeek.
Tarrant County fatal road accidents from 2017 to 2019 numbered 476, the fourth-highest tally among Texas counties, the study found. Tarrant’s most dangerous stretch of roadway was the I-20 highway, where 32 fatal accidents occurred.
In the analysis, MoneyGeek analyzed 10,137 deadly crashes in the state and examined issues such as weather conditions, the time of day the accidents occurred and links to drunken driving.
Among the 10 deadliest five-mile road spans in Texas, three were found to be in Dallas, the researchers said. Overall, a quarter of the fatal accidents statewide were attributed to drunken driving, according to the study.
