Did you know there’s a Dallas barbecue joint with Guy Fieri’s seal of approval?
With over 42 seasons of his hit show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives under his belt and his having visited over 1,250 restaurants, TV personality and celebrity chef Guy Fieri knows what he’s talking about.
So, it’s best to listen when he says the Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum has a dish “unlike anything you’ve experienced in your life.”
Mashed, a news-style platform for chefs and foodies that compiled their top picks of Fieri’s favorite eats across the nation, and Pecan Lodge’s brisket made the cut in Texas.
In a state full of award-winning barbecue joints, Pecan Lodge surpassed the expectations of Fieri and hundreds of customers.
First discovered by Fieri in 2012 when it was just a stand at the Farmers Market, Pecan Lodge has grown into a full-fledged eatery with a spartan-inspired interior and live music.
Owners Justin and Diane Fourton started the venture as an escape from corporate America and a foray into entrepreneurship, serving up a variety of meats from a 24/7 burning BBQ pit.
“Anything we can make from scratch, we make from scratch,” the pair said on their website.
Homemade pulled pork, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and banana pudding all prompt long lines, snaking out the door and onto the street.
Co-owner Justin showed Fieri the secrets to his East-Texas-style barbecue sauce and his famous smoked brisket.
“You’re a pro, dude,” Fieri commented. “That’s rocking brisket.”
Yet what impressed the veteran eater the most was what the Pecan Lodge calls its “Hot Mess.”
The concoction comes to life when a sweet potato is buttered, loaded with 18-hour smoked brisket, and topped with chipotle cream cheese. This is the plate Fieri described as “unlike anything you’ve experienced in your life.”
Operating hours are Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or until the shop sells out of meat.
The Pecan Lodge can be found at 2702 Main St. in Dallas.
