The Plano Art Association and Richardson Civic Art Society are creating a sunflower-themed exhibit in downtown Plano to raise funds to aid Ukraine.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the exhibit will feature over sixty local artists and host silent auctions for art all day long. The display will be at 1013 15th St. from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m on April 16.

Gene Dillard, the president of the Plano Art Association, offered The Dallas Express a comment on the project:

“The artists of Plano Art Association and Richardson Civic Art League combined forces because they wanted to do ‘something’ to provide help to the besieged people of Ukraine. By creating our sunflower-themed artwork and putting it up for auctions, seemed like a good way to put our talents up for this worthy cause.”

“One hundred percent of income from our Sunflowers For Ukraine auction will go to humanitarian and media support for the citizens of Ukraine,” Dillard said.

The auction will give its proceeds from sales and donations to Sunflower of Peace, a U.S.-based charity that helps deliver aid to Ukraine. Their website states that Sunflower of Peace has raised thousands of dollars and has rallied “hundreds of medical workers” to assist.

Founder Katya Malakhova, appearing on Morning in America, stated that the organization has already raised $3 million for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

The Plano Symphony Orchestra will perform throughout the afternoon at the venue. Attendees can expect to see an abundance of Ukrainian flags dotting the downtown area. Event organizers encourage people to show their support by visiting the exhibit at Event 1013, even if they do not intend to buy any art.
