Leap Day does not come around often, so to help you celebrate this rare day, The Dallas Express has compiled some of your best eating and entertainment options in the metroplex.
If annual celebrations are special, events that occur every four years must be exceptional. Like the Olympics and World Cup, Leap Day is for those among us with patience. The following is a list of where to go for those celebrating this unusual day on February 29.
- Community Beer Co.: Leap Day may not enjoy the same holiday exposure as Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve, but that does not mean it is ignored. Community Beer Co. is one of the few establishments officially honoring the day with $4 drafts and $8 cocktails all day. To top it off, if your birthday lands on February 29, your drinks and meals are free.
- Jeremiah’s Italian Ice: All day on Leap Day, you can enjoy soft serve for just 96 cents when ordering with the J-List app.
- Grandscape: The Leap Year Drink Walk, a 21+ event that offers 10 drink samples for the bars and restaurants in The Colony’s popular mixed-use development. The stroll takes place between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., and tickets cost $30.
- Bearded Monk: Enjoy two-person leapfrog races and toy frog Olympics at the Bearded Monk in Denton on February 29 from 7 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.
- Sundown at Granada: Enjoy braised short ribs inside the restaurant, then head upstairs to the rooftop to catch a viewing of the movie Leap Year starring Amy Adams. The flick is about a woman who plans to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day since Irish tradition requires a man to accept a Leap Day proposal. Doors open at 6 p.m. with showtime at 7:30 p.m.
- Pinstripes: Comprising a bistro alongside bowling and bocce, Pinstripes offers an intersection between food and fun. On Leap Day, the spot will offer bowling or bocce for just $2.29 per person, beer and wine for $2.29 each, and $29 off for guests with “Leapster” birthdays.
- Krispy Kreme: The donut chain will offer all guests an original glazed dozen for $2.29 when they buy any regularly priced dozen on Leap Day or a free dozen to those with Leap Day birthdays who visit on February 29.
- Dunkin’ Donuts: In other donut-related deals, Dunkin’ Rewards members can get a $2 medium cinnamon vanilla coffee when checking out on Leap Day. Rewards members will also get 4x the usual points for their orders.
- Wendy’s: Wendy’s will give out free Cinnabon “Pull-Aparts,” a collaboration that the fast food chain recently rolled out with the cinnamon roll brand, on Leap Day. The freebie is available in person, through the drive-thru, online, or on the app on February 29.
- Chipotle: Acknowledging that” ‘guac is extra’ is not just a phrase,” the build-your-own Mexcian grill is celebrating the “extra” day of the year by offering its iconic extra, guacamole, for free on Leap Day. For some “extra” excitement, avid Chipotle fans trolled the brand’s Instagram posts to locate 29 hidden keywords leading up to the 29th, and up to 29 lucky winners will receive free guacamole for a year.
