A big leadership change is on the horizon at The Potter’s House megachurch, as Bishop T.D. Jakes announced over the weekend that Touré Roberts and Sarah Jakes Roberts will take over the roles of senior pastors.
Jakes, founder of The Potter’s House in Dallas, spoke to his congregation in late 2024 following a major health scare that required ICU care and emergency surgery. The 67-year-old described the ordeal as a “life-threatening calamity,” as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The announcement, delivered during this weekend’s services, is a huge change within the 30,000-member megachurch founded by Jakes nearly 30 years ago.
While stepping away from day-to-day pastoral duties, Jakes will allegedly remain deeply involved in the profitable community, continuing as Chairman of the Board of the Dallas-based ministry.
“As we look across our great nation and survey the unyielding economic, societal and spiritual needs visiting our communities, it’s clear that we can’t afford to squander the potential of our youth or the elders who have paved the way,” Jakes wrote in a long social media post.
“Today we shared with the world our long-held plans of purposeful evolution for The Potter’s House and our global church family.

Jakes, who will celebrate 50 years in the public ministry scene as of 2025, mentions that his decision is driven by a desire to focus more heavily on broader societal challenges rather than any strategic restructuring of the church itself. He framed the move not as a retirement but as a shift into a legacy of “economic empowerment.”
The transition follows the health scare last November, which he said reaffirmed the move to ensure the flock of followers at The Potter’s House are never left without “strong leadership.”
“The Potter’s House of Dallas ushering in a new movement and calling, the work of the T.D. Jakes Group to bolster job creation and 21st century workforce readiness, investing in the infrastructure of communities nationwide,” Jakes added.
Pastors Touré and Sarah Jakes Roberts are now set to take the throne in Bishop Jakes’ foundation, the big economic machine.
Under Jakes’ leadership, The Potter’s House grew from a small congregation into a global tele-ministry force. Jakes has previously served as a spiritual adviser to former U.S. presidents and even delivered a keynote address at President Obama’s inauguration.
Looking ahead, Jakes now plans his next profitable project: preparing to launch a new podcast, allegedly titled My Next Chapter, in collaboration with media giant iHeartMedia.
