Ben & Jerry’s announced that its Free Cone Day will return this April for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On April 3, customers can get a free ice cream cone from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at participating Ben & Jerry’s storefronts.
There is a limit of one cone per time through the line; however, customers can get back in line as many times as they want for more free cones, and there is no limit on which flavor you choose.
The closest Dallas location is in Plano at 1501 Preston Rd.
Live elsewhere in Texas? Try the San Antonio location on West Crockett Street or the Highland Village location on Barton Creek.
Free Cone Day began in 1979. The tradition was started by Ben & Jerry’s cofounders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield.
1979 was the company’s first year in business. As a thank you to the Vermont community that supported them, the cofounders began the tradition that has taken place annually since then.
Even 40 years later, the day’s mission has not changed.
“The day is still a thanks. The day is still about fans,” the company said in its statement.
The Free Cone Day announcement comes just a month after the company announced a new flavor: “Churray for Churros,” which attempts to emulate the buttery, crunchy, cinnamon flavor of the churro.
If you have trouble deciding between the immense variety of flavors, you can take a Ben & Jerry’s online quiz here to see what flavor you should start with on Free Cone Day.
Ben & Jerry’s isn’t the only ice cream retailer offering free ice cream, though.
Dairy Queen is celebrating Free Cone Day in Texas this week on Monday, March 20, to welcome in the spring, and Dippin’ Dots will be giving out free cups this summer on National Ice Cream Day on July 16.
While Baskin-Robbins does not have a designated Free Cone Day, the company does offer free cones to those who download and sign in to the app for the first time. Downloading the Baskin Robbins app will also get you a free cone on your birthday.
