Apple’s first event of 2022 came with a massive launch of performance and device upgrades. The announcement brought news of a new addition to AppleTV+, a fresh look for iPhone 13, a new iPhone SE, an upgraded iPad Air, a remarkable “ultra chip,” an upgraded Mac Studio, and the promise of another Apple event in the near future.
Although the MLB has announced a delay for the 2022 baseball season due to labor concerns, Apple said it would air two Friday night games on AppleTV+.
There are new color options for those contemplating the new Apple iPhone 13, which launched last year. The iPhone 13 is available in forest green, and the iPhone 13 Pro is available in a lighter alpine green.
If losing the home button has been a deal-breaker for you committing to a new iPhone, you are in luck as the new iPhone SE brings the home button back as well as a lower price.
The A15 Bionic chip, which is in the iPhone 13, will be included in the new, smaller version of the iPhone SE, making it two times faster than the iPhone 8. The new iPhone SE is on the 5G network and includes extended battery life.
The new iPad Air has updated performance with the M1 Apple Silicon Chip, the same one in the iPad Pro. Apple boasts the fresh iPad Air as the fastest competitive tablet on the market and two times faster than the Windows laptop in its $599 price range.
The new iPad Air is equipped with 5G and supports the second-generation Apple pen. Apple will also release a new iMovie update with the new iPad Air.
“We’ve transitioned nearly every machine in the lineup to Apple Silicon,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook during the event. Apple Silicon promises to bring the innovation of Silicon Valley to every Apple user.
One way Apple is making good on that promise is with the new Apple M1 Ultra microchip, which is two M1 Max chips fused Apple dubs as “UltraFusion.”
M1 Ultra is 2.5TBs with four times the bandwidth of leading multi-chip technology. The M1 Ultra is the ultimate in powering your Apple desktop or laptop. Speaking of desktops, Apple has improved on their iMac and Mac Mini machines with Mac Studio.
Mac Studio is what many filmmakers, musicians, or video editors use.
The Mac Studio is the combination of a compact hard drive, which can be equipped with either the M1 Max or M1 Ultra chip and is so small it can be conveniently stored under the 27-inch, 5K retina “studio display.”
The hard drive and display are sold separately and start at $1999. Shipping and in-store availability of all of Apple’s new products starts March 18. Next up is a new Apple Mac Pro. Stay Tuned.
