Recipients of the Dallas Museum of Art’s 2022 Awards to Artists have been officially announced by the museum. All 10 of this year’s recipients are Texas residents, NBC 5 reported. Nine of the recipients are from the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Anna Katherine Brodbeck, the Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art, said, “We are so grateful for the opportunity to recognize the outstanding talent in our region through the DMA’s Awards to Artists Program.”

Brodbeck continued, “We are continuously impressed by the ambitions of these emerging and established artists to challenge themselves and grow their practices, and we are honored to play our part in encouraging new experiences and experiments through material support.”

The annual awards were first started in 1980 by the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund and Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund.

Awards from the Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund typically are $1,500 or less, while awards from the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund are $3,500 or less, according to the Dallas Museum of Art official website

In 1990, the Otis and Velma Davis Dozier Travel Grant was established as part of the awards, with grants awarded equaling $6,000 or less.

Funds from the Kimbrough and DeGolyer grant are mainly used for research and materials to create new work, according to NBC 5. This can include buying materials, attending site visits or exhibits, and using mobile studio space. The Otis and Velma Davis Dozier Travel Grant funds travel to Łódź, Poland, Italy, the American West, and Guanajuato, Mexico.

“The Otis and Velma Davis Dozier Travel Grant was established in 1990 to honor the memory of Dallas artists Otis and Velma Davis Dozier, who strongly believed in the enriching experiential and aesthetic influence of travel on an artist’s work,” the Dallas Museum of Art website shares. “The grant seeks to recognize exceptional talent in professional Texas artists who wish to expand their artistic horizons through domestic or foreign travel. The fund does not cover tuition or artist residency programs.”

The 2022 recipients of the Otis and Velma Davis Dozier Travel Grant are Nishiki Sugawara-Beda, Kristen Cochran, and Sarah Ayala.

The 2022 Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund Award recipients are Sarah Pickett, Enrique Nevarez, Erica Lee, Julia Caswell Freund, and Krista Chalkley.

The 2022 recipients of the Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund Award are Kameron Walker and Aliyah Cydonia Scobey.

The Dallas Museum of Art shares that these awards “seek applicants who show a commitment to continuing their artistic endeavors.”

Since being established in 1980, the Awards to Artists have recognized over 310 artists, according to NBC 5, with a combined award amount of around $830,000.

The Otis and Velma Davis Dozier Travel Grant has awarded more than $200,000 in funding since being established. The Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund and Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund have awarded more than $630,000 to artists since 1980.
