After news broke of a staggering $2,000 tip left for a server in Rowlett, more reports of an “angel tipper” have surfaced.
On August 23, a server at George Touris’ family-run Dalrock Diner received a $2,000 tip after serving an omelet breakfast meal.
The server wished to remain anonymous, but Touris told Fox 4 KDFW that while some very generous tippers might add a few hundred to the bill, he had never seen $2,000.
Yet a few days later, the woman came back to Dalrock Diner, ordered the same meal, and left her server Clarrisa Touris a tip of $2,000.
“It really opened our eyes,” Clarissa told Fox 4. “There are a lot of good people out there still, and it just means a lot to us and the server.”
On Facebook, the restaurant posted photos of the two receipts and a message of gratitude.
“A shining example of compassion and selflessness, your generosity is very much appreciated, and we thank you!” read the post.
Soon after, it was discovered that the same woman had gone to lunch at Senaida’s Mexican Kitchen across the street from the diner on August 23 and left the server Gysel Martinez a $2,000 tip as well.
“I would like to thank her in person. I would like to give her a hug,” said Martinez, who shared that she will use the money to visit her father.
Further reports suggest that the gracious tipper might have gone to other restaurants across North Texas, with one establishment in nearby Royse City claiming to have also received a $2,000 tip recently.
The news is refreshing for those in the restaurant industry amid a growing sentiment of tipping fatigue, as previously covered in The Dallas Express.
A recent survey from Bankrate suggested that American consumers are increasingly fed up with having to tip.
While 41% of respondents said that they felt businesses ought to pay their employees a high enough wage that would make tipping unnecessary, 30% felt that the tipping culture had grown out of control since the introduction of the tip screen during the pandemic.
It is unknown whether the generous tipper’s identity will be revealed or whether she will strike again, but the comments on Facebook suggest that either she has generated a ripple effect or that multiple “angels” may be afoot in North Texas.
“A little further down from Rowlett, but we were at the Starbucks in Fate two Saturdays ago and the woman in front of me paid for the entire line of cars! Not far from Rowlett so I’m curious if it was the same person,” shared commenter Heather Callahan.
“This is the third story I have seen this week about big tips!! … There are angels among us!! Restores a little faith in humanity!” added user Heather Redding.
