The Dallas Theater Center announced that it would cancel all remaining performances of A Christmas Carol scheduled to hold at the Wyly Theatre in the Dallas Arts District.

The theater announced that the decision to cancel the shows was made as a member of the company tested positive for COVID-19 even when all recommended safety precautions were followed. The theater also said that the company even set its own COVID-19 protocols.

According to The Dallas Morning News, managing director of Dallas Theater Center, Jeff Woodward, issued a statement saying, “It’s unfortunate, but CDC and our own COVID-19 safety guidelines have shown canceling the remaining performances of A Christmas Carol is the safest thing for everyone.”

“The health and safety of our artists, staff, and patrons has always come first,” he continued in the statement.

Woodward’s statement mentioned that the management is not happy about canceling the company’s perennial holiday favorite as a lot of work has been put into the production. However, he consoled lovers of the show that it will not be long before they see A Christmas Carol on the Dallas Theater stage again. “We are already looking forward to next season,” he said.

Per The Dallas Morning News, Woodward announced that the venue’s box office would contact everyone who purchased tickets to a canceled show. According to him, ticket holders will have the option to exchange or donate their tickets. They can also opt for a performance credit or a refund.

Woodward further said that the theater will give all ticket holders of a canceled performance a complimentary digital viewing of A Christmas Carol “to experience the show remotely.”

Regarding Dallas Theater Center’s next production, Our Town, Woodward said the scheduled January 27 debut at the Kalita Humphreys Theater still stands.
