After a highly unusual year, with social distancing, shutdowns, and mask mandates, going out to eat has not been high on many folks’ priority lists. However, with the vaccine now readily available and the local economy rebounding to pre-COVID levels, it’s a great time to visit some of your favorite local eateries or make plans to check out some of the new places set to open up around Dallas this fall.

La Mina

Located at 5630 Village Glen Drive, in the basement of the Drey Hotel, La Mina plans to serve dishes from different regions of Mexico, with an emphasis on authenticity and freshness. House-made guacamole and corn-tortillas will accompany imported heirloom corn and blue-crab. They will also have a selection of craft margaritas and crevezas. Coming early fall.

While many people were disappointed to see Sassetta shut down during the pandemic, they have found a new home at 1530 Main Street, Downtown. They plan to be back up and running, serving their popular Italian fare soon. If you cannot wait for their new dining room to open, they are currently taking to-go orders via their pop-up at the Commissary.

Neon Kitten

Deep Ellum will soon be home to a funky new Japanese eatery, Neon Kitten. Located in the former Beauty Bar space at 2805 Main Street, Deep Ellum, Neon Kitten’s menu will focus on easily sharable dishes like sushi and dim sum. They also plan to have a large selection of cocktails which will be canned in-house and available for takeaway orders. Coming mid-fall.

Firebird Fowl

If you couldn’t guess it from their name, Firebird Fowl, which is opening at 2816 Fairmount Street, is dedicated to all things bird. Their menu consists of fun and unique dishes like Texas Quail Lollipops, Ostrich Fajitas, Emu Steak Frites, and some classics like Chicken Noodle Soup. Coming in September.
