12-year old Skye Dakota Turner from Dallas received special recognition for her work on Broadway and on the big screen. The honor came from Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson.

Turner is in the Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect, which was released in August.

Skye Dakota Turner is indeed Hollywood’s next big thing and a star of Dallas. Her role as young Aretha Franklin in Respect shows that she is a Hollywood star on the rise, making her a force to reckon with. The favorite part of her performance for most viewers is her incredible voice. Others admire her acting prowess at such a young age.

About her experience in the biopic, Turner said to NBC 5 in April, “I was very excited for my first movie role to portray the young Queen of Soul. The late Aretha Franklin’s style has been mimicked by many other great artists that I admire. Playing young Aretha was a dream come true.”

Turner is now in the middle of the Broadway production of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, but it was cut short as the pandemic hit and Broadway was shut down. The Dallas native will soon resume her role as Broadway is set to come back in September.
