A man and a woman were found dead from gunshot wounds in a Northeast Dallas apartment Wednesday, according to the Dallas Police Department.

Officers also found two children — a 3-year-old and an 8-month-old — unharmed in the apartment. They have been placed in the care of Dallas Family Protective Services.

DPD responded to an apartment in the 6000 block of Ridgecrest Road around noon on Wednesday. When they arrived, officers found 24-year-old Jimena Iliannid Nunez Sandoval and 27-year-old David Deshawn Stewart dead.

During the investigation, it was determined that Sandoval and Stewart had been shot. The victims’ black 2014 Nissan Sentra with license plate HNT-9708 was missing from the apartment parking lot, DPD announced in a Thursday update.

Questions remain as to when the couple died. They may have been shot two full days before.

DPD said on Thursday it had responded to a call at the same location just before midnight on Sunday, after a neighbor had reported gunshots. Police arrived at the unit — where the pair would later be found dead — just before 2 a.m. but saw “no sign of a forced entry into the apartment.”

The responding officers searched areas surrounding the apartment but saw no cause for alarm.

Sergeant Mitchell Warren reported that “an officer reported knocking on the door of the reporting party, but there was no answer.”

Hearing no sounds coming from inside the apartment after listening at the door, police officers “cleared the call and went back into service.”
