Rockwall Police arrested a Rockwall High School student on Friday allegedly for a “terroristic threat.” The student reportedly sent messages threatening a shooting at Kaufman High School.

Friday, December 17, had been trending on social media, namely TikTok, as national “school shooting day.” Most of the threats were not directed at specific campuses, but school districts took them seriously in the hopes of ensuring the safety of their students, faculty, and staff.

One school directly mentioned in the online posts was Kaufman High School. Kaufman ISD officials elected to close the campus Friday after receiving “anonymous but campus and date-specific threats.”

The Rockwall student’s arrest also appears to be related to the viral social media trend.

The Rockwall Police Department received an alert Thursday night around 11:30 pm that an unknown male student had made a threat against the high school.

According to the police, the student sent text messages with images of “simulated firearms” and potential school shooting threats. It is unclear at this time if these messages contained pellet or airsoft guns, or actual firearms.

Rockwall Police and Rockwall ISD investigated the source of the threats and found that they came from a juvenile male student who was absent from school on Friday.

Rockwall Police located the student at home and arrested him. He was charged with the third-degree felony of making a terroristic threat.

According to police, no credible danger was found, but the investigation into the threats remains ongoing.

The Rockwall Police Department has asked anyone with information regarding the incident to please contact them at (972) 771-7724.
