Walmart has announced the opening of 18 new Walmart Health locations in Texas, with 10 slated for the Dallas area.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company also announced the opening of its 50th Walmart Health location in a statement published by Business Wire. There are Walmart Health stores in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, and Texas.

“Today’s grand opening of Walmart Health in Sugar Land, Texas marks the 50th location in the United States, an important milestone in our effort to increase access to integrated care,” said Dr. David Carmouche, senior vice president of healthcare delivery at Walmart. “We are excited to deepen Walmart Health’s presence in Texas beginning in April in Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth. With the population of Texas continuing to grow, these Walmart Health centers will help address the demand for easy-to-access care for all seniors and their families.”

Walmart Health centers provide services that include primary care, dental, X-ray, behavioral health, labs, and telehealth services. The centers are next to Walmart Supercenters and are about 5,400 square feet. The centers feature state-of-the-art equipment and are intended to provide customers with easy access to healthcare.

The retail giant began constructing Walmart Health centers in 2019. The centers provide services seven days a week and offer some services 24 hours a day. Not only will the locations provide access to care, but they also offer opportunities for high-paying jobs that will help improve communities. Visits will start at just $49. The centers feature licensed physicians, dentists, and skilled care providers and accept all health insurance plans. The centers also provide care for people who do not have insurance coverage.

U.S. Census Bureau data reveals that Dallas County has the highest percentage of uninsured people in the state. The data shows that nearly 25% of Dallas County residents have no health insurance. Median income in Dallas County is also below much of the other counties in the state. The data shows that the average income of a Dallas County resident is just over $70,000 annually, suggesting that options such as Walmart Health centers could be a benefit to the community.
