For the first time since its founding more than 30 years ago, The Magdalen House in Dallas is offering its recovery program to men.
“Based on the 2022 population of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, approximately 405,000 men in DFW are confronting alcohol-related challenges,” a news release reads.
“The growing needs of the community and the escalating demand for life-saving services have prompted the organization to extend its support to men. By offering comprehensive, free services and a continuum of care for individuals dealing with alcoholism, she underscores the importance of taking a holistic approach to address the needs of both men and women.”
The Magdalen House is on Gaston Avenue, but the men’s program is opening on Caddo Street.
One in seven men has an alcohol-use disorder, compared to one in 11 women, CEO Lisa Kroencke said in the release. The Magdalen House clients are offered participation in:
- First Step — A two-week, residential program for those with alcoholism who want to stop drinking but cannot end the habit. They are provided with education and resources to achieve sobriety and begin recovery.
- Next Step — A three-phase, non-residential program for those with alcoholism at any stage of recovery. They are provided structure and education to sustain recovery while understanding 12-step “spiritual principles.”
- Community — Solution-focused classes, workshops, and meetings provided for men and women with alcoholism at every stage of recovery every day of the year.
- Resources and education — Community partnerships help connect alcoholic men and women and their families to programs that promote sobriety, provide counseling, and encourage healthy living.
According to the press release, the new men’s facility will have accommodations for the First Step and Next Step programs. “The house can accommodate up to 12 men with rolling admissions for their First Step program.”
Founded in 1987, The Magdalen House provides free services without insurance or state funding. The women’s house is located at 4513 Gaston Ave. The new house for men is located at 2100 Caddo St.
