Retailers have recalled several brands of rolling candy across the nation after reports of them causing a possible choking hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of Cocco Candy’s Rolling Candy units on October 5. The recall affects about 145,800 2-fluid-ounce units of strawberry, tutti frutti, and cola-flavored candies.

This candy is manufactured by KGR Distribution Corp in Turkey and was sold in multiple stores and chains nationwide as well as on its website between May 2022 and March of this year.

Officials issued this recall due to a risk that the rolling ball on the canister could be dislodged and then become stuck in a child’s throat. At least one child’s death has been attributed to this potential threat.

“CPSC has received one report of a 7-year-old girl who choked and died after the candy’s rolling ball dislodged and became trapped in her throat in New York in April 2023,” said the organization in its announcement.

Consumers who have purchased these candies are urged to keep them away from their children and contact KGR Distribution Corp. for a refund. They may reach out to KGR by calling 888-802-8823, emailing [email protected], or submitting a form via their website to receive a refund of $2.50 or more with proof of purchase.

CPSC also announced a recall for about 70 million units of Mega Toxic Waste’s Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy for the same reason. This recall affects blue razz, strawberry, sour apple, and black cherry flavors.

This candy is manufactured by Candy Dynamics. Affected units were sold across the nation in retail stores such as Walmart and Five Below and on websites like Amazon between June 2015 and July 2023.

CPSC received two reports of the Slime Licker candy’s rolling ball dislodging as the Cocco Candy’s did in the fatal April incident. However, no injuries have been reported in connection with Candy Dynamics’ product.

Consumers who have purchased this product are similarly advised to keep the candy away from children and contact Candy Dynamics for a full refund.
