According to a study, more than 80% of patients infected with COVID-19 are Vitamin D deficient. A retired physician, Dr. Leslie Ray Matthews, who specializes in Vitamin D research, asserts that Vitamin D3 can minimize the impact of the coronavirus.
“Vitamin D3 stimulates your immune system and regulates your inflammatory response,” said Dr. Matthews, a Vitamin D3 expert and retired trauma surgeon. “It increases your body’s white blood cells in response to any type of invasion. So, if your body is invaded by any variant of the coronavirus, what Vitamin D does is stimulate the body to make more white blood cells.”
A study published by the Endocrine Society found that 80% of patients who have died or required ICU care due to COVID-19 were Vitamin D deficient, and the deficiency is more prevalent in men.
Dr. Matthews, who has lectured about the efficacy of Vitamin D3 to the CDC, the Veterans Administration, and the FDA six times, alleges that Dr. Fauci is aware that Vitamin D3 is potentially beneficial in the fight against COVID for Vitamin D deficient people.
“Dr. Fauci takes 6,000 IUs of vitamin D himself,” he said.
Last month, Peacekeepers of Fort Worth in Irving awarded Dr. Matthews the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, which requires 6,000 hours of documented community service work.
“It’s an honor to be recognized for the hard work I’ve done over the past 30 years,” he said. “I’m honored and humbled by the award, and it encourages me to work harder and keep doing what I’m doing. Throughout my career, I’ve done a lot of free community work. I’ve gone to different places to lecture about Vitamin D without charge. I have also provided medical care without charging people.”
Vitamin D is not really a vitamin, according to Matthews. Vitamin D is a hormone.
“It was discovered a hundred years ago and misnamed,” he said. “Over the last 20 years, we have discovered that this is a hormone, and it does a lot of different things other than bone health. It’s important for immune health and mental health.”
In addition to being medically tested for Vitamin D deficiency, Matthews recommends that people ingest a high dose of Vitamin D3 daily regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status, including booster schedules.
“Some of the genes that the hormone Vitamin D controls are your immune response system, or how well your body responds to viral, bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and cancer cells,” he said. “So, if you are Vitamin D deficient, you cannot have a strong, healthy immune system regardless of whether you’re vaccinated or not vaccinated.”
A native of Indianola, Mississippi, Matthews graduated cum laude from the University of Mississippi with a chemistry and medical degree. He completed a surgical residency at Morehouse Grady Hospital in Atlanta and a surgical critical care fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he was also on staff as a Senior Associate Consultant (SAC).
Matthews is the author of the National Institutes of Health study called Enhanced Surgical Outcomes and Boosted Soft-Tissue Wellness from Vitamin D Supplementation.
“For Vitamin D3, you can go to Walmart, or you can go to any over-the-counter pharmacy and buy vitamin D, but I’m not saying vaccines don’t work,” Matthews added. “Vaccines are very important. I’m not anti-vaccine.”
