Methodist Health System announced a new partnership with Surgery Partners, Inc. that will bring multiple surgery centers to the North Texas region.

Dallas-based Methodist Health System operates a network of 12 hospitals and more than 24 clinics throughout the metroplex.

Surgery Partners, headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, is a national surgical facilities operator and healthcare provider, serving over 600,000 customers annually and operating over 180 facilities nationwide. The company has 17 facilities in Texas, including Cook Children’s Pediatric Surgery Center in Prosper and Cook Children’s Surgery Center in Hurst.

The new partnership promises to add “high-quality, convenient, and patient-centered ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs)” across the North Texas region, according to a press release.

According to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, a total of 569 ASCs are currently in operation around the state, including several in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The Methodist Mansfield Ambulatory Surgery Center in Mansfield was the first collaboration of the new partnership. Surgery Partners recently took over the management of the existing facility. In the future, Methodist Health System and Surgery Partners will work together to build new ambulatory surgery centers in areas where their patients live.

The press release noted that the new ASCs developed under the collaboration will be independent legal entities separate from the Methodist Health System. The physicians and staff providing care at the new facilities will either be employees or independent contractors of the separate ASCs, not employees or agents of the Methodist Health System. Surgery Partners will manage the ASCs.

“Surgery Partners and Methodist Health System are both committed to compassionate, high-quality healthcare. We are pleased to collaborate with Methodist, widely recognized as a system dedicated to transforming healthcare delivery,” said Surgery Partners CEO Eric Evans, per the press release. “We look forward to partnering with Methodist and its network of exceptional physicians to offer patients a high-quality, low-cost alternative for outpatient services.”

James C. Scoggin Jr., CEO of Methodist Health System, said that the organization was proud to begin the partnership.

“ASCs add a new option to provide convenient and cost-effective care for outpatient surgery,” said Scoggin in the release. “The collaborative efforts with Surgery Partners will not only meet market demands but will provide new job opportunities across the region. It’s a win-win.”
