Four varieties of frozen meals from Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s have been recalled following the potential presence of “wood-like material” in the food.
Parent company Nestlé USA initiated a voluntary recall of three Lean Cuisine frozen meals and one Stouffer’s frozen meal distributed to major retailers from September 2024 to March 2025, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
The company officially recalled the Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli, Lean Cuisine Spinach Artichoke Ravioli, Lean Cuisine Lemon Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry, and Stouffer’s Party Size Chicken Lasagna.
Nestlé USA clarified that this batch of frozen meals was produced between August 2024 and March 2025. No other items are included in this voluntary recall.
A statement released by Nestlé USA, posted on the FDA website, claims that “consumers contacted Nestlé USA about this issue” prior to the recall, with “one potential choking incident to date” due to these items.
“We are actively investigating the source of the wood-like material. We are confident that this is an isolated issue, and we have taken action to address it,” continued the company in the recall statement.
“The quality, safety and integrity of our products remain our number one priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action represents to both our consumers and retail customers.”
Nestlé USA further stated that it is working alongside the FDA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture on the recall, though it does not specify what went wrong with the items.
The company also provided batch codes and the corresponding best-before dates for each of the four recalled meals.
Those who purchased an item that is listed under the recalled list “should not prepare or consume the product and should return it to the retailer where it was purchased for a replacement or a full refund,” according to the Nestlé USA recall statement.
