Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano was named a Magnet hospital for the fourth time on December 17, 2021, by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the most prestigious designation honoring nursing services.
Magnet status has been awarded to 549 hospitals worldwide, including 53 in Texas. For the fourth time, Texas Health Plano joins a group of twelve other Texas hospitals that have received Magnet designation. A total of five Texas Health hospitals have been designated as Magnet hospitals.
Every four years, the Magnet designation honors organizations for nursing excellence, high-quality patient care, and nursing innovation.
“It is a true honor to be re-designated as a Magnet hospital, one of the most prestigious designations in nursing and clinical excellence,” said chief nursing officer Laura Massey, M.H.A., B.S.N., R.N., C.P.N., in Local Profile. “It reinforces our commitment to creating a collaborative, supportive environment for our nursing staff to provide quality care for our patients.”
Magnet hospitals are recognized for their “magnetic” nursing environment, where nurses and clinical staff work collaboratively within a positive culture that supports evidence-based work practices and new ideas. Even though the Magnet program is designed to recognize nurses, the entire interdisciplinary care team plays a valuable part in achieving Magnet designation.
“This designation shows what we already know Texas Health Plano is committed to providing quality care to the people in the communities we are privileged to serve,” said hospital president Josh Floren. “Our entire care team contributed to this recognition, and this shows we are dedicated to our patients and also support each other regardless of the challenges that come our way.”
Having a Magnet-designated hospital nearby means that when care is needed, they can expect a safe and quality experience every time.
“Magnet designation means achieving the gold standard in nursing and clinical excellence,” Viji George, M.A., B.S.N., R.N., R.N.C.-N.I.C., the Magnet program manager for Texas Health Plano and system Clinical Excellence Program Manager, said in a statement. “Texas Health Plano is proud to be a Magnet organization.”
