COVID-19 cases and hospitalization in Dallas county have slowly started to rise slightly following weeks of encouraging decline, according to the latest report to Dallas County Commissioners from the county health director.
According to Dr. Philip Huang, the recently reduced COVID-19 threat level is fragile. Huang explained that moving the county’s threat level from red to orange does not mean things will go back to normal.
This news comes as other states like New Mexico report a higher increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalization.
Huang added that the latest leveling off and increases are cause for concern with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays around the corner.
“The message really is we just cannot let our guard down,” Dr. Huang told NBC DFW.
According to NBC DFW, sixty percent of Dallas County residents are vaccinated, heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.
Dallas County is set to reopen the Fair Park vaccination site for booster shots and all COVID-19 vaccine shots, including Pfizer vaccines for kids aged 5 and above. The site will be reopened this Sunday and for the next few Sundays to increase vaccination opportunities.
Dallas County operates another vaccination site at Eastfield College. The vaccines are also available at pharmacies and drug stores all over the county.
“I think everyone needs to assess their own risk and their situation,” Huang told NBC DFW. “Certainly, if people are fully vaccinated in your family group, there are people that are not at high risk. But if you have family members that are at high risk, then that’s something that you need to consider and look at the vaccination status of your family members.”
