Dynarex Corporation is expanding the recall it issued earlier this fall for baby powder products due to concerns about possible asbestos contamination.
While there have been no reported illnesses or adverse events to date, asbestos is a known carcinogen and has been linked to various lung disorders.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration first identified the tainted product through routine testing. In September, an initial recall of 14-ounce containers of Dynacare Baby Powder was issued, affecting consumers in 12 states and Amazon online purchasers.
After further investigation, the company expanded the recall to include two sizes of products sent to retailers and distributors in 35 states, including Texas.
The affected products include Dynacare Baby Powder in the 4-ounce (item # 4874) and 14-ounce (item # 4875) sizes, manufactured between October 31, 2023, and August 1, 2024, with batch numbers from B048 through B060.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to discontinue use immediately and return them for a full refund.
The FDA stated that asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral often found near talc, one of the main ingredients in baby powder and other cosmetic products.
“If talc mining sites are not carefully chosen or if proper steps are not taken to adequately purify the talc ore, it may contain asbestos,” according to the FDA.
Any adverse effects potentially related to Dynacare Baby Powder can be reported online using the MedWatch Online Voluntary Reporting Form.
