Albertsons Companies, including Randalls, Tom Thumb, and Albertsons stores in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, has issued a voluntary recall of select tuna salad products due to possible Listeria contamination.
The recall, announced by Albertsons, stems from a potential issue with breadcrumbs used as an ingredient in the tuna salad products supplied by Reser’s.
The affected tuna salad was packaged under the following product names and UPCs, with sell-through dates ranging from July 16 through July 19:
RM DUO TUNA SALAD W/CRACKER S (27183000000); RM SALAD TUNA PREMIUM SS (21425000000);RM SNACKER TRAY TUNA SALAD (21151300000); RM SNDWCH TUNA SALAD CROISSANT SS COLD (21788400000); RM TUNA SALAD OVER BED OF LETTUCE SS (21786400000);SALAD TUNA PREMIUM (21228800000); TRAY CROISSANT MINI SALAD 16 IN (27841300000); TRAY CROISSANT MINI SALAD 18 IN (27841200000); TRAY SALAD SANDWICH 12 IN (27841500000); and TRAY SALAD SANDWICH 16 IN (27841400000).
Reser’s Fine Foods initiated the recall after identifying possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes in the breadcrumbs. No injuries or infections have been reported in connection with the recalled products, according to the company.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The infection poses risks of miscarriages and stillbirths for pregnant women.
Listeria can survive in refrigerated conditions and spread to other foods and surfaces.
Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled tuna salad products and to either discard them or return them to the store for a full refund.
The FDA advises thorough cleaning and sanitizing of any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the products to prevent cross-contamination. Those concerned about illness or injury should contact a healthcare provider.
