Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and his wife Nikki have welcomed their third child together, a baby girl named Lela Reece Johnson.
Johnson announced on social media this week that Lela entered the world weighing 6 lbs 5 oz and 19 1/2 inches.
“Nikki and I are truly blessed to announce the birth of our daughter,” Johnson wrote in May 24 Twitter post.
Lela is a sister to the Johnsons’ two boys, William and George.
“Mother, daughter, William and recently promoted ‘big brother’ George are all doing amazingly well,” Johnson tweeted.“God be praised.”
Upon becoming the first Dallas mayor to have a baby born while in office, Johnson has asked the city to look into offering paid parental leave for city employees as they are currently only provided with sick and vacation time.
“We do really try to create a good workplace for our employees,” Johnson told FOX4News. “I was a bit taken aback by the fact that we don’t have any policy at all.”
Born in Dallas to working class parents in 1975, Johnson was elected mayor of Texas’ third-largest city in 2019. He is the 60th mayor of city.
He has been a practicing lawyer for more than 15 years and is formerly a member of the Texas House of Representatives.
The mayor and his family are members of the Mountain View Church of Christ.
