The City of Flower Mound earned its 29th consecutive Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada Distinguished Budget Presentation Award last month, according to a press release.

The town received this award in acknowledgment of their fiscal year 2020-21 budget.

“As chief budget writer for the Texas Senate, this makes my heart happy,” State Sen. Jane Nelson (R-Flower Mound) said on Twitter. “Congratulations to my hometown for earning the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 29th consecutive year from @GFOA.”

In order to earn the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, Flower Mound needed to satisfy nationally recognized criteria for successful budget presentation, which evaluated the budget as a policy statement, financial plan, operations manual and communication tool.

Additionally, submitted budget documentation must be considered “proficient” in all four categories and the 14 required criteria that fall under each category.

The GFOA, which was founded in 1906, represents over 20,000 public finance officials in the United States and Canada, according to the GFOA website.

The organization’s members include financial officials from federal, state/provincial and municipal governments who are responsible for planning, funding and implementing thousands of government operations in their respective jurisdictions.

The aim of the GFOA, according to its official website, is to “advance excellence in public finance.”
