“Texans, are you ready?” U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) asked her more than 12 million Twitter followers on Friday afternoon.

The Democratic lawmaker from New York will be visiting San Antonio to rally support for congressional candidates Greg Casar and Jessica Cisneros.

“We’re coming in for a major DOUBLE-RALLY next Saturday, Feb 12th, to send [Greg Casar and Jessica Cisneros] to Congress and support community organizing across the state.” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet continued. “This one’s going to be special.”

Ocasio-Cortez officially endorsed Casar earlier in the week. In a statement, she said she was “proud to support his campaign and will be doing everything [she] can to help him win this primary on March 1.”

The campaign website for Casar also touts an endorsement from current U.S. senator and former presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts). Progressive groups such as the Working Families Party and Progressive Democrats of America, among others, are other endorsers of Casar.

Casar, an outgoing Austin City Council member, is running for U.S. House District 35 against three other Democratic candidates in the primary, including current U.S. Rep. Eddie Rodriguez. The Republican primary in this race consists of ten candidates.

Cisneros is an attorney running for U.S. House District 28, currently occupied by Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo). Along with Cuellar, there is one other candidate in the Democratic primary. Seven candidates are entered into the Republican primary in this race.

In the 2020 Democratic primary, Cuellar defeated Cisneros by about 2,700 votes or four-percentage points.

Recently, Cuellar has found himself in a reputation hurting position. FBI agents raided his Laredo home in mid-January, though he has not been charged with any crime.

The FBI has not released any official announcement on the nature of the search. However, Cuellar, the vice-chairman of the House Appropriations Homeland Security Committee, has denied any wrongdoing.

“I’m fully cooperating with law enforcement and committed to ensuring that justice and the law is upheld. There is an ongoing investigation that will show that there was no wrongdoing on my part,” Cuellar said in a one-minute and 28-second video posted to Twitter from his campaign page.

In a statement, Cisneros said the FBI investigation into Cuellar was “alarming.” She claimed, “there were already serious concerns about the Congressman’s long history of corruption and close ties with his corporate donors over the voters of this district.”

Cisneros is endorsed by several progressive groups, including the Justice Democrats, EMILY’s List, and NARAL Pro-Choice America, among others. She has also picked up the personal endorsement of Senator Warren.

Early voting for the primary is from February 14-25, with election day set for March 1.
